Leviticus 23

23 And the Lord said to Moses, 24 “Say to the people of Israel, In the seventh month, on the first day of the month, you shall observe a day of solemn rest, a memorial proclaimed with blast of trumpets, a holy convocation. 25 You shall do no laborious work; and you shall present an offering by fire to the Lord.”

2 Kings 3

21 When all the Moabites heard that the kings had come up to fight against them, all who were able to put on armor, from the youngest to the oldest, were called out, and were drawn up at the frontier. 22 And when they rose early in the morning, and the sun shone upon the water, the Moabites saw the water opposite them as red as blood. 23 And they said, “This is blood; the kings have surely fought together, and slain one another. Now then, Moab, to the spoil!” 24 But when they came to the camp of Israel, the Israelites rose and attacked the Moabites, till they fled before them; and they went forward, slaughtering the Moabites as they went.[b]25 And they overthrew the cities, and on every good piece of land every man threw a stone, until it was covered; they stopped every spring of water, and felled all the good trees; till only its stones were left in Kir-har′eseth, and the slingers surrounded and conquered it.

LIFE AFTER DEATH AND THE SPIRIT WORLD

The Spirit World

2. The Many Levels and Realms in the Spirit World

In my Father’s house are many rooms.
John 14.2

Of the nether worlds and heavens has He
created millions;
Men exhaust themselves trying to explore
them.
Adi Granth, Japuji 22, M.1, p. 5 (Sikhism)

There are celestial bodies and there are terres-
trial bodies; but the glory of the celestial is one,
and the glory of the terrestrial is another. There
is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the
moon, and another glory of the stars; for star dif-
fers from star in glory. 2
1 Corinthians 15.40-41

The church of the Firstborn… are they into
whose hands the Father has given all things—
they are they who are priests and kings, who
have received of His fullness, and of His glory;
and are priests of the Most High, after the order
of Melchizedek, which was after the order of the
Only Begotten Son. Wherefore, as it is written,
they are gods, even the sons of God… These are
they whose bodies are celestial, whose glory is
that of the sun, even the glory of God, the high-
est of all, whose glory the sun of the firmament
is written of as being typical.
And again, we saw the terrestrial world,
and behold and lo, these are they who are of
the terrestrial, whose glory differs from that of
the church of the Firstborn who have received
the fullness of the Father, even as that of the
moon differs from the sun in the firmament.
Behold, these are they who died without law…
who received not the testimony of Jesus in the
flesh, but afterwards received it. These are they
who are honorable men of the earth, who were
blinded by the craftiness of men.
These are they who receive of His glory, but
not of His fullness. These are they who receive of
the presence of the Son, but not of the fullness of
the Father. Wherefore, they are bodies terrestrial,
and not bodies celestial, and differ in glory as the
moon differs from the sun…
And again, we saw the glory of the telestial,
which glory is that of the lesser, even as the
glory of the stars differs from that of the glory
of the moon in the firmament. These are they
who received not the gospel of Christ, neither
the testimony of Jesus. These are they who deny
not the Holy Spirit. These are they who are
thrust down to hell. These are they who shall
not be redeemed from the devil until the last
resurrection, until the Lord, even Christ the
Lamb, shall have finished his work.
These are they who receive not of His
fullness in the eternal world, but of the Holy Spirit
through the ministration of the terrestrial; and the
terrestrial through the ministration of the celestial.
And also the telestial receive it of the administering
of angels who are appointed to minister for them,
or who are appointed to be ministering spirits for
them; for they shall be heirs of salvation. 3
Doctrine and Covenants 76.54-88 (Latter-day Saints)

When King Solomon “penetrated into the
depths of the nut garden” (Song of Solomon
6.11), he took up a nut shell and studying it, he
saw an analogy in its layers with the spirits that
motivate the sensual desires of humans…
God saw that it was necessary to put into
the world so as to make sure of permanence all
things having, so to speak, a brain surrounded by
numerous membranes. The whole world, upper
and lower, is organized on this principle, from
the primary mystic center to the very outermost
of all the layers. All are coverings, the one to the
other, brain within brain, spirit inside of spirit,
shell within shell.
The primal center is the innermost light,
of a translucence, subtlety, and purity beyond
comprehension. That inner point extends to
become a “palace” which acts as an enclosure for
the center, and is also of a radiance translucent
beyond the power to know it. The “palace”
vestment for the incognizable inner point, while it
is an unknowable radiance in itself, is nevertheless
of a lesser subtility and translucency than the
primal point. The palace extends into a vestment
for itself, the primal light. From then outward, there
is extension upon extension, each constituting a
vesture to the one before, as a membrane to the
brain. Though membrane first, each extension
becomes brain to the next extension.
Likewise does the process go on below; and
after this design, man in the world combines
brain and membrane, spirit and body, all to the
more perfect ordering of the world.
Zohar (Judaism)

All kingdoms have a law given;
And there are many kingdoms; for there
is no space in which there is no kingdom; and
there is no kingdom in which there is no space,
either a greater or a lesser kingdom.
And unto every kingdom is given a law; and
unto every law there are certain bounds also and
conditions.
All beings who abide not in those conditions
are not justified.
For intelligence cleaves unto intelligence;
wisdom receives wisdom; truth embraces truth;
virtue loves virtue; light cleaves unto light;
mercy has compassion on mercy and claims her
own; justice continues its course and claims its
own; judgment goes before the face of Him who
sits upon the throne and governs and executes
all things. 4

God is the greatest teacher for fallen
people. Among teachers, He is the great
King of teachers, because there is noth-
ing God does not know. Among parents,
God is the First, in other words, the True
Parent. As a king, He is the King of all
kings. God is the best teacher and the
first parent. If He is the First Parent,
would He be a false parent or a true par-
ent? He is the True Parent. This True
Parent was unable to be a True Parent
because of the Fall. In the Unification
Church we close our prayers by saying
“I pray in the name of the True Parents.”
God is the first True Parent.
Richard: Families Blessed in Marriage by Rev. and Mrs. Moon pray in their own names, as they have inherited the mission to be Tribal Messiahs.

Cheon Seong Gyeong 1642

Why does God exist? For what pur-
pose does He exist? It is for the sake of
love. Thus, the Almighty God needed
to create the object partner of His love.
Until this time, the essential ideal of cre-
ation that the process of creation was ini-
tiated for the sake of love was unknown.
The entire world of creation came into
being because of love. (208-235, 1990.11.20)

LIFE AFTER DEATH AND THE SPIRIT WORLD

The Spirit World

1. The Spirit World Corresponds to the Physical World

Teachings of Rev. Sun Myung Moon

Human life does not end with the death of the physical body. It continues in the spirit world, where saints and sages and also all of our ancestors live as spirit selves. It is a form of human existence of a higher order than in life in the physical body. This earthly world where our physical bodies dwell is only a minuscule part of the infinite and eternal world—the fundamental world that God created. (July 10, 2003)

You should clearly know God and the spirit world. Even if fallen people forget about everything else, they should know these two well. The [heavenly] spirit world is the eternal fatherland, our eternal original home. However, we cannot establish this original home once we arrive at the spirit world; we must do it while on earth. (398:145, December 9, 2002)

Do you know that the Bible mentions the third heaven? Saint Paul saw it fourteen years before [he wrote the epistle]. During those fourteen years, Paul built himself up, holding onto his experience of seeing the third heaven. Paul not only talked about the third heaven; he could keep going because he had glimpsed a realm higher than the world around him. (62:47, September 10, 1972)

The spirit world is connected with the physical world. The focal point and common factor linking them is true love. (137:54, December 18, 1985)

The quality of your internal life on earth will be visible in the spirit world. Love is central, because the love within God and human beings joins them like the cells of the body. In the spirit world we each become one of the cells. Once you enter that dimension, God will surely come inside your heart. When you call, “God!” He will answer in your heart, “Who is calling me? What do you want?” (218:129, July 14, 1991)

Where is the spirit world? Is it outside your body, or does it come inside your body? It penetrates even inside your body. You are walking around with the spirit world on your shoulders; you are carry-ing it and holding it wherever you go. Can you get away from it? Impossible. That is why my heart is always confident wherever I go, and why opposition cannot affect me. (162:116, March 30, 1987)

1 Corinthians 16

Greetings from the churches in Asia.

Aquila and Priscilla, together with the church that meets in their house, send greetings in the name of the Lord.

20 All of the Lord’s followers send their greetings.

Give each other a warm greeting.

Richard: House churches, or as Rev. Moon calls them, Home Churches should greet each other and work together. A Home Church is not just a particular house but 360 contiguous homes that are ministered to. Those who are doing community ministry are welcome to join the Tribal Messiah Association.

Isaiah 66

22 “For as the new heavens and the new earth
    which I will make
shall remain before me, says the Lord;
so shall your descendants and your name remain.
23 From new moon to new moon,
    and from sabbath to sabbath,
all flesh shall come to worship before me,
says the Lord.

Life After Death and the Spirit World

The Spirit World

What is the spirit World? invisible to earthly eyes, it is not easily fathomed, yet it is a vital part of our existence and a place to which we will all journey one day. Father Moon teaches that knowing about the spirit world is second in importance only to knowing God. three definite notions about the spirit world are represented here: First, knowing the spirit world is essential to finding and keeping the proper direction in our earthly life. second, the spirit world corresponds by analogy to the earthly world. it maintains the quality of life and love cultivated on earth. its harmony or lack of harmony is the result of the love, or lack of love, of its citizens, who cultivated various tendencies and prejudices while on earth. third, the spirit world is composed of a multiplicity of societies and realms—though today these are in the process of being unified into one universal heaven

1. The Spirit World Corresponds to the Physical World

I [Paul] know a man in Christ who fourteen
years ago was caught up to the third heaven—
whether in the body or out of the body I do not
know, God knows. And I know that this man
was caught up into Paradise—whether in the
body or out of the body I do not know, God
knows—and he heard things that cannot be
told, which man may not utter.
2 Corinthians 12.2-4

No one in heaven or on the earth knows the
Unseen save God; and they know not when they
will be raised. Does [human] knowledge extend
to the Hereafter? No, for they are in doubt con-
cerning it. No, for they cannot see it.
Qur’an 27.65-66

To fear death, gentlemen, is no other than to
think oneself wise when one is not, to think one
knows what one does not know. No one knows
whether death may not be the greatest of all
blessings for a man, yet men fear it as if they
knew that it is the greatest of evils. And surely
it is the most blameworthy ignorance to believe
that one knows what one does not know.
Socrates, in Plato, Apology 29 (Hellenism)

God created the seven heavens in harmony.
Qur’an 71.15

What is here [the phenomenal world], the same
is there [in Brahman]; and what is there, the
same is here.
Katha Upanishad 2.1.10 (Hinduism)

Thou who exists beyond the wide firmament,
mighty in Thine own splendor and strong of
mind,
hast made, for our help, the earth a replica of
Thy glory.
Rig Veda 1.52.12 (Hinduism)

We have such a high priest, one who is seated
at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in
heaven, a minister in the sanctuary and the true
tabernacle which is set up not by man but by the
Lord… There are priests who offer gifts accord-
ing to the law. They serve a copy and shadow
of the heavenly sanctuary; for when Moses was
about to erect the tabernacle, he was instructed
by God, saying, “See that you make everything
according to the pattern which was shown to
you on the mountain.”
Hebrews 8.1-5

The system of Change is tantamount to Heaven
and Earth, and therefore can always handle and
adjust the way of Heaven and Earth. Looking
up, we observe the pattern of the heavens; look-
ing down, we examine the order of the earth.
Thus we know the causes of what is hidden and
what is manifest. If we investigate the cycle of
things, we shall understand the concepts of life
and death.
Essence and material force are combined
to become things. The wandering away of Spirit
becomes change. From this we know that the
characteristics and conditions of spiritual beings
are similar to those of Heaven and Earth and
therefore there is no disagreement between
them. The knowledge [of Spirit] embraces all
things and its way helps all under heaven, and
therefore there is no mistake. It operates freely
and does not go off course. It rejoices in Nature
and understands destiny. Therefore there is
no worry. As [things] are contented in their
stations and earnest in practicing kindness,
there can be love. It molds and encompasses all
transformations of Heaven and Earth without
mistake, and it stoops to bring things into
completion without missing any.
I Ching, Great Commentary 1.4.1-4 (Confucianism)

Are You Doing Exercises in the Morning?

Cheong Seong Gyeong 2188

Through serving in the family and
respecting your parents, you become
children of filial piety. In the same way,
when you attend and live for the king of
your nation, you become patriots, and if
you live for all humankind, you become
saints. So you should realize how much
the dimension of a holy child differs
from yours. In order for you to change,
you must make revolutionary changes in
yourselves and ascend through numer-
ous levels. (293-211, 1998.5.26)

Cheon Seong Gyeong 1241

When you see power lines extend-
ing to remote parts of the land, you can
see that they hang loosely between poles.
Nevertheless, if you pull from one end,
the lines become taut. In the same way,
when your children receive great love
from Heaven, even if you’re sagging,
you’ll be pulled up just like the power
lines. You receive benefit in this way.

Health and Disease

4. Good Hygiene

Nothing is to be found that can substitute for
exercise in any way… Exercise will expel the
harm done by most of the bad regimens that
most men follow. Not all motion is exercise.
Exercise is powerful or rapid motion or a com-
bination of both, vigorous motion which alters
breathing and increases its rate.
Maimonides, Mishneh Torah (Judaism)

Diseases caused by over-eating are cured by
fasting; those caused by starvation are cured by
feeding up. Diseases caused by exertion are cured
by rest; those caused by indolence are cured by
exertion. To put it briefly: the physician should
treat disease by the principle of opposition to
the cause of the disease according to its form.
Hippocrates

Those children who are nourished by their
mother’s milk enjoy the most appropriate and
natural food.
Galen

Teachings of Rev. Sun Myung Moon

Are you doing exercises in the morning? Some might say, “Why should I? I am still tired, and I need my rest.” However, those who do not make efforts to keep their health will gradually grow infirm. It is the law of nature. (380:164, June 7, 2002)

Whenever my physical condition is poor, I know how to improve it with exercise and massage. For instance, if I feel an ache in my lower back, I massage it like this—a sort of acupuncture. If I examine myself, I can tell what is wrong with my body. I’ve trained myself to manage my health. (203:176, June 23, 1990)

Before you love God directly, you should love the food you eat, love material, all things, and your body from head to toe. Through loving all things, you come to love your body, because your body absorbs the elements of all things. (138:99, January 19, 1986)

Appreciate the grass growing in the earth, made by Heavenly Father’s hands. Fresh air is far more fragrant than any man-made perfume. Anyone who knows the taste of fresh air, sunshine and clean water, will not get sick. If we live with a heart to appreciate nature, we shall remain always healthy. (9:177, May 8, 1960)

If you want to be healthy, you should love people, giving and forgetting what you have given con-tinually. People who live this way will be happy and enjoy their life during their sojourn on earth. (331:23, August 23, 2000

2 Tim 4

I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus who is to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom: preach the word, be urgent in season and out of season, convince, rebuke, and exhort, be unfailing in patience and in teaching. For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own likings, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander into myths. As for you, always be steady, endure suffering, do the work of an evangelist, fulfil your ministry.

Isaiah 16

“Give counsel,
    grant justice;
make your shade like night
    at the height of noon;
hide the outcasts,
    betray not the fugitive;
let the outcasts of Moab
    sojourn among you;
be a refuge to them
    from the destroyer.
When the oppressor is no more,
    and destruction has ceased,
and he who tramples under foot
    has vanished from the land,
then a throne will be established in steadfast love
and on it will sit in faithfulness
    in the tent of David
one who judges and seeks justice
and is swift to do righteousness.”

Health and Disease

3. Medicine

The physician is Nature’s assistant.
Galen

The book of Nature is that which the physician
must read; and to do so he must walk over the
leaves.
Paracelsus

Servants of God, make use of medical treat-
ment, for God has not made a disease without
appointing a remedy for it, with the exception of
one disease: old age.
Hadith of Ahmad, Tirmidhi and Abu Dawud (Islam)

Give the physician his place, for the Lord
created him;
let him not leave you, for there is need of him.
There is a time when success lies in the hands
of physicians,
for they too will pray to the Lord
that he should grant them success in diagnosis
and in healing, for the sake of preserving life.
Ecclesiasticus 38.11-14

The medicine men learn their medicines from
the spirits in a vision. The spirits tell them what
to use and how to use it. Their medicines are
nearly always herbs (wato) or roots (hutkan)…
They drive the disease out in the sweat, in the
vomit, in the defecation, in the urine, and in
the breath.
Oglala Sioux Tradition (Native American Religions)

The hekura [guardian spirits]… help you bring
back stolen souls; thanks to them you don’t
lose your way. You can repel the demons of
disease; they enable you to recognize them by
their smell. Each one has its particular odor,
and their hammocks are impregnated with it;
it comes from the watota, which they all pos-
sess. A high-quality hallucinogen enables you
to see and name the demon who has just sto-
len a soul. You think, “It is so-and-so who is
guilty!” And it is your turn to hurl your familiar
hekura after him.
Yanomami Shaman’s Instruction
(Native American Religions)

Teachings of Rev. Sun Myung Moon

Even the vilest germs disappear when faced with their natural enemies. All we need to do is intro-duce several of the germs’ natural enemies to mop them up and restore the body’s balance. Yet today’s doctors, in their ignorance, cut and slice in order to cure diseases like SARS. I am establish-ing a unified medical science, a combination of Eastern and Western medicines. It is a preventative medical science. I believe that by employing the principle of natural enemies, people can protect themselves from disease proactively. We should not have to undergo surgery in order to be healed of disease. In God’s love, our bodies are not meant to be cut and sliced. (May 10, 2003)

What is medicine? It is the disease’s natural enemy. If you have a disease in your head, the medi-cine would be the tail of its natural enemy. It is interesting to examine the materials and methods of Oriental medicine. If you get sick in the right side of your body, the treatment for it may involve the left side.16 (325:148, June 30, 2000)

We need to develop a unified medical science as a field of Unification Thought. It will cure the diseases of the body, even those that originated from the Human Fall. Furthermore, it should help to heal the conflict between Eastern and Western medicine by harmonizing Eastern and Western cultures. When we can combine Eastern and Western medicine, we will be able to cure incurable diseases like HIV/AIDS.

In Korea, among people of the countryside with no formal medical education, there are many gifted healers. The spirit world instructs them about special treatments for curing diseases such as AIDS that are incurable with modern medicine. Conventional medicine ignores such things. (287:38, August 10, 1997)
