United with God in True Love, You Can Have Dominion Over All God’s Creation

2 Samuel 9

David called in Ziba, Saul’s chief servant, and told him, “Since Mephibosheth is Saul’s grandson, I’ve given him back everything that belonged to your master Saul and his family. 10 You and your fifteen sons and twenty servants will work for Mephibosheth. You will farm his land and bring in his crops, so that Saul’s family and servants will have food. But Mephibosheth will always eat with me at my table.”

Micah 4

He will settle arguments
between distant
    and powerful nations.
They will pound their swords
and their spears
    into rakes and shovels;
they will never again make war
    or attack one another.
Everyone will find rest
beneath their own fig trees
    or grape vines,
and they will live in peace.
This is a solemn promise
    of the Lord All-Powerful.

Richard: Today we receive two messages of kindness, peace and reconciliation. We all need this message. Note that this does not mean that we accept evil and call it good. Rather, God addresses our attitude toward how we feel and act toward our neighbors and fellow man. For instance, contrast the peaceful protest of Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr. with the bile and acrimony of Antifa, the Black Lives Matter Movement and the impeachment proceedings of President Donald J. Trump.

Spiritual Union

1. Becoming One with God

Teachings of Rev. Sun Myung Moon

God is huge, but a human being is a microcosm of the cosmos. By penetrating into God, we can experience God within us. When we experience this, we can say, with Jesus, “I am in the Father, and the Father in me.” (John 14.10) Although God is infinitely large, He can do His work only when human beings fully dwell within Him. (31:210, May 31, 1970)

When your mind and body are united as one, you will be in your eternal dwelling place, the center where God abides. Then you can possess even God. This state arises when true love is restored; it is the supreme goal of human beings who had lost everything as the result of the Fall. (294:98-99, June 14, 1998)

The path of religion is to stop living as animalistic human beings and become humane human beings. Eventually we are to become divine human beings. We are to participate in the divine realm. We are to become people with a divine nature who practice divine love and rejoice ever more in eternal happiness. (117:37, January 31, 1982)

Love is the central point, the rope that binds God and human beings together eternally. When embodied human beings attain oneness with God, their heart is immersed in a state of profound awareness and their emotions thrill with boundless happiness. Through love, God and human beings become one. Through love, human beings and the world become one. Here is the starting point for the realization of the ideal world that fulfills God’s purpose of creation. (35:356, October 13, 1970)

When you are united with God in true love, you can have dominion over all God’s creation, both physical and spiritual. When you live completely for others, you are reaching the very essence of God. Then, God’s will becomes your will, and God’s feelings naturally come into your heart. Living this way, you become a resonant vessel of God’s heart and love. You and God will always resonate together, like two tuning forks. (201:206, April 9, 1990)

As existent beings in front of Thee,
we entrust to Thee our whole selves:
We shall be Thy branches and leaves.
When Thou art sorrowful, we shall also be sorrowful;
when Thou art happy, we shall also be happy;
when Thou dost hurry to work, we shall also hurry to work.
Permit us to become Thy sons and daughters who stand beside Thee,
as Thou dost deal with every aspect of our world. (42:59, February 21, 1971)

The Lord then told Moses 10 to say to the community of Israel:

If any of you or your descendants touch a dead body and become unfit to worship me, or if you are away on a long journey, you may still celebrate Passover. 11 But it must be done in the second month, in the evening of the fourteenth day. Eat the Passover lamb with thin bread and bitter herbs, 12 and don’t leave any of it until morning or break any of the animal’s bones. Be sure to follow these regulations.

13 But if any of you refuse to celebrate Passover when you are not away on a journey, you will no longer belong to my people. You will be punished because you did not offer sacrifices to me at the proper time.

Richard: God gives his Word, and we must follow it. God speaks through our conscience informed by God’s Word.

2 Samuel 21

13-14 David had their bones taken to the land of Benjamin and buried in a side room in Saul’s family burial place. Then he gave orders for the bones of the men who had been hanged to be buried there. It was done, and God answered prayers to bless the land.

14 Anyone, including foreigners who live among you, can celebrate Passover, if they follow all the regulations.

Richard: Those responsible for crimes were brought to justice, and then God could bless the land.

God’s Grief

1. God’s Grief over the Human Fall and Humankind’s Sinful Condition

Teachings of Rev. Sun Myung Moon

God’s heart was torn asunder and broken with indescribable grief and tears the moment Adam and Eve fell. (7:292, October 11, 1959)

Love is endless. Had God not established the principle of love, He would be alone. Dwelling by Himself, He would be unable to experience joy, anger, sorrow or happiness.
Although God’s love is absolute, once God lost His partners of love, He unexpectedly found Himself in an absolutely miserable and grim situation, such as no one in history has ever experienced. No one can comfort Him over this, ever. (204:101, July 1, 1990)

If Adam and Eve had not fallen, God their Creator would have been their eternal Lord. But due to the Fall, Satan became their lord. The Fall made this outcome unavoidable. Suppose a girl of noble birth, raised within the walls of her house, is raped by a gangster; to whom does she belong? She belongs to him. The same principle applies.
Adam was to have been the king of heaven and Eve his queen. To restore these original positions requires following the principle of creation. From the beginning of creation God laid down the law of eternal love to be fulfilled by Adam and Eve, so it has to be observed. Were God to disregard this law, it would be tantamount to destroying the law of Heaven.
God set up this heavenly law. If He were to negate it, that would be tantamount to negating humankind and to negating Himself as the absolute Creator. That is why God had no alternative but to bring order through a course of re-creation. Who has known its long and painful history? (207:272, November 11, 1990)

How grieved was God that His enemy deprived Him of His throne! Unable to become the glorious God, He became the long-suffering and sorrowful God. Although He is rightfully the King of His kingdom and the King of the universe, God has been mistreated as if He were dead. His enemy robbed Him of His ideal and violated His beloved children. The planet Earth has fully become His enemy’s plaything. (105:199, October 21, 1979)

Why is God’s heart full of grief? It is because of Satan. It is because human beings planted Satan’s blood and flesh through partaking of his false love. It is because they sowed the Devil’s seeds, which propagated as the Devil’s families. God wished to rejoice, singing, “May my families live with true love for ten thousand years under Heaven’s dominion!” However, with the appearance of the Devil’s fami-lies multiplying throughout the world, God’s dreams were shattered. (214:282, February 3, 1991)

Can you imagine how much it breaks God’s heart to observe human misery every hour of every day? What happened to God’s dignity when His sons and daughters, whom He intended to glorify as princes and princesses, became cripples, fell into a pit filled with dung and were stuck upside-down in hell? What became of the dignity of the omniscient and omnipotent God, of the absolute God? Can He show His face? (218:240, August 19, 1991)

As long as human beings live in despair, God also lives in despair. As long as Satan shackles human beings on earth, the world of darkness under his dominion will remain also in the spirit world. (2:246, June 9, 1957)

Always Bear in Mind that You Stand in Relation to Others

Zecheriah 11

11 Lebanon, open your gates!

Let the fire come in
    to destroy your cedar trees.
Cry, you cyprus trees!
The glorious cedars have fallen
    and are rotting.
Cry, you oak trees of Bashan!
The dense forest
    has been chopped down.
Listen! Shepherds are crying.
Their glorious pastures
    have been ruined.
Listen! Lions are roaring.
The forests of the Jordan Valley
are no more to be found.

2 Samuel 1

Saul was dead.

Meanwhile, David had defeated the Amalekites and returned to Ziklag. Three days later, a soldier came from Saul’s army. His clothes were torn, and dirt was on his head.[a] He went to David and knelt down in front of him.

David asked, “Where did you come from?”

The man answered, “From Israel’s army. I barely escaped with my life.”

“Who won the battle?” David asked.

The man said, “Our army turned and ran, but many were wounded and died. Even King Saul and his son Jonathan are dead.”

2. Harmony

Music expresses the harmony of the universe,
while rituals express the order of the universe.
Through harmony all things are influenced, and
through order all things have a proper place.
Music rises to heaven, while rituals are pat-
terned on the earth… Therefore the Sage cre-
ates music to correlate with Heaven and creates
rituals to correlate with the Earth. When ritu-
als and music are well established, we have the
Heaven and Earth functioning in perfect order.
Book of Ritual 19 (Confucianism)

Music creates order out of chaos; for rhythm
imposes unanimity upon the divergent, melody
imposes continuity upon the disjointed, and
harmony imposes compatibility upon the
incongruous. Thus, a confusion surrenders to
order and noise to music, and as we through
music attain that greater universal order which
rests upon fundamental relationships of geomet-
rical and mathematical proportion, direction is
supplied to mere repetitious, power to the mul-
tiplication of elements, and purpose to random
association.
Yehudi Menuhin

True poetry, complete poetry, consists in the
harmony of contraries. Hence, it is time to say
aloud—and it is here above all that exceptions
prove the rule—that everything that exists in
nature exists in art.
Victor Hugo

Teachings of Rev. Sun Myung Moon

Always bear in mind that you stand in relation to others. A dancer expresses the beauty of her art while always standing in the position of an object to her partner. Like a dancer, you should live with the feeling of being embraced in God’s bosom. With such a mind, you can become a handsome man or a beautiful woman. Bring love’s activity and beauty’s receptivity into harmony. (15:171, 1965.10.07)

We need a realm of partners. When man and woman love each other, all kinds of harmony emerge in heaven and on earth. Literature and art emerged centering on the love between man and woman. Literature deals with their yearning to find the original Being (through their love). What is art? It is that which beautifies love. (354:21, September 16, 2001)

A good singer knows the art of harmony, balancing her highs and lows. When she sings her highest note beyond which she can go no higher, she must then come down to a lower note. No one wants to listen to a soprano who keeps ascending; when she skillfully lowers her voice you feel relieved. A soprano who knows how to lower her voice at the right time is a good singer. Likewise, the art of happiness in human life is the ability to go up and down smoothly. (98:50, April 9, 1978)

Galatians 6

6 My friends, you are spiritual. So if someone is trapped in sin, you should gently lead that person back to the right path. But watch out, and don’t be tempted yourself. You obey the law of Christ when you offer each other a helping hand.

If you think you are better than others, when you really aren’t, you are wrong. Do your own work well, and then you will have something to be proud of. But don’t compare yourself with others. We each must carry our own load.

Chapter 4

God’s Creation and Human Creativity

The Lord of Creation

Although human beings are but a part of the natural worLd,we occupy a unique position as lords of creation. in the bible, adam and eve were granted the blessing of dominion over all things, and the qur’an accords to each human being the status of God’s “vicegerent.” this means also that God created the natural world for our benefit, as nature provides us with everything we need to live and thrive. nevertheless, the blessing of dominion is not divine permission to pollute the earth and create artificial environments at nature’s expense. in the agricultural societies where this mandate was first given, human creativity was seen as essentially in harmony with nature’s ebb and flow. We are truly lords of creation when we practice love for all things and use our creativity to enhance nature’s abundance even as we adapt it to our use.
The basis of humankind’s sovereignty over nature is not a matter of size or strength. on that scale of things we are but infinitesimal specks on a planet that is itself but a speck in the infinite reaches of the universe. rather, it is due to our unique spiritual endowment. humans seek after God; they seek to better themselves and aspire to a better world. this makes us different in kind from animals. in our awareness of and intimacy with the creator of the universe, we humans are potentially more valuable than the entire world of creation.
Do we deserve this honor? as Father Moon teaches, since we receive the creator’s abundant love, we should, in turn, love the creation on God’s behalf. then we become the bridge between God and the natural world. God loves his creatures through us, and through us the entire natural world is perfected

1. Human Beings Are Given Dominion over All Things

I will create a vicegerent on earth.
Qur’an 2.30

And God blessed them, and God said to them,
“Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth and
subdue it; and have dominion over the fish of
the sea and over the birds of the air and over
every living thing that moves upon the earth.”
Genesis 1.28

Do you not see that God has subjected to your
use all things in the heavens and on earth, and
has made His bounties flow to you in exceeding
measure, both seen and unseen?
Qur’an 31.20

When I look at thy heavens, the work of thy
fingers,
the moon and the stars which thou hast
established;
What is man that Thou art mindful of him,
and the son of man that thou dost care for
him?
Yet thou hast made him little less than God,
and dost crown him with glory and honor.
Psalm 8.3-5

God is He who created the heavens and the
earth, and sends down rain from the skies, and
with it brings forth fruits to feed you; it is He
who made the ships subject to you, that they
may sail through the sea by His command; and
the rivers He has made subject to you. And He
made subject to you the sun and the moon,
both diligently pursuing their courses; and the
night and the day He has made subject to you.
And He gives you of all that you ask for. But if
you count the favors of God, never will you be
able to number them. Verily, man is given up to
injustice and ingratitude.
Qur’an 14.32-34

Out of the ground the L ord God formed every
beast of the field and every bird of the air, and
brought them to the man to see what he would
call them; and whatever the man called every
living creature, that was its name.
Genesis 2.19

2 Samuel 8

Everywhere David went, the Lord helped him win battles.

Hadadezer’s officers had carried their arrows in gold cases hung over their shoulders, but David took these cases[f] and brought them to Jerusalem. He also took a lot of bronze from the cities of Betah and Berothai, which had belonged to Hadadezer.

2 Chronicles 23

23 After Ahaziah’s son Joash had hidden in the temple for six years, Jehoiada the priest knew that something had to be done. So he made sure he had the support of several army officers. They were Azariah son of Jeroham, Ishmael son of Jehohanan, Azariah son of Obed, Maaseiah son of Adaiah, and Elishaphat son of Zichri. These five men went to the towns in Judah and called together the Levites and the clan leaders. They all came to Jerusalem and gathered at the temple, where they agreed to help Joash.

Jehoiada said to them:

Joash will be our next king, because long ago the Lord promised that one of David’s descendants would always be king. Here is what we will do. Three groups of priests and Levites will be on guard duty on the Sabbath—one group will guard the gates of the temple, one will guard the palace, and the other will guard Foundation Gate. The rest of you will stand guard in the temple courtyards. Only the priests and Levites who are on duty will be able to enter the temple, because they will be the only ones who have gone through the ceremony to make themselves clean and acceptable. The others must stay outside in the courtyards, just as the Lord has commanded. You Levites must protect King Joash. Don’t let him out of your sight! And keep your swords ready to kill anyone who comes into the temple.

God and Creation

Chapter 1
God

Omniscient and Omnipresent

Teachings of Rev. Sun Myung Moon

When God looks at a person, He sees the person’s mind. He sees his past, his present, and based on that He sees his future. (100:93, October 8, 1978)

God transcends time, and He has no regard for your 24-hour timeframe. God does not sleep. Apply this principle in your activities, and you will develop without limit. (94:282-83, October 9, 1977)

God’s mind is not only in His Word, but also in everything He created. For this reason, God exists everywhere. Truly, He is omnipresent. (8:182, December 13, 1959)

You have a mind. Mind is invisible, and may not appear to exist; yet it exists. Where is your mind? Is it in your head or in your heart? In truth, your mind extends throughout every part of your body.

Likewise, this world is like God’s body, and He is present everywhere in the world. Yet [like mind],
you cannot see God. (89:72, July 11, 1976)

God’s love is more than enough to embrace the universe. God’s love is at the center of everything.
God as the central being of love maintains the great foundation. When God moves, everything
moves with Him, even the smallest things. Everything is contained within one great circle. Thus
does God embrace the whole world, the entire universe. (205:33, July 7, 1990)

If God did not exist, the universe would feel completely empty. But because God exists, the universe
feels completely full. Why? Because there is love. Hence, even when we are alone, because we know
God, we feel the universe’s fullness. We feel God in every place. Hence, within love we can know
the deep inspiration that comes from God’s omnipresence. But if we did not know God, we would
feel an all-pervading emptiness, as if nothing existed. (91:323, March 1, 1977)

How do you experience God’s omnipresence? Feel the air as the breath from God’s mouth. Feel a
typhoon as God blowing His nose. Feel the stream as God’s sweat pouring out from going through
the suffering course of restoration for the sake of the world. Learn the love of God from the sun,
which symbolizes the elements of life throughout the cosmos. Nature is a textbook for experiencing God’s heart, a textbook for the happiness of His beloved children. Speak to the plants; feel
that their leaves are as your children; you are not crazy. You are close to being a saint. (59:102-03,
July 9, 1972)

Consider that our Father is the living God, who watches over us from the beginning to the end of
our life. He foresees our life in the eternal spirit world, as well as our present life on earth. When He
looks at you spiritually, what do you think He sees? (118:38, May 2, 1982)
