We need to return to God the right of
ownership, the realm of heart, and the
realm of substance. The family, nation
and world together need to be returned
to Him. We need to give them back to
Him as an offering through the True
Parents and clear all our debts.
On that basis, the horizontal founda-
tion of the right of ownership of parents,
children, and your family and all things
is connected through the True Parents.
Where that takes place becomes God’s
Kingdom on earth. From the un-fallen
position, the right of ownership must be
connected to earth, but due to the Fall
this connection must be made through
the path of indemnity. Once established,
we will usher in the era of the sovereignty
of absolute love and the right of owner-
ship of the Kingdom of Heaven. In order
to welcome such a liberated realm, we
declare in Family Pledge number eight,
that we will perfect the realm of liber-
ation in God’s Kingdom on earth and
achieve that goal. (295-243, 1998.8.28)

Cheong Seong Gyeong 1277

In actual fact, initially, True Father
must first place his hand on the women’s
hands and pray. True Father would offer
the prayer of unity. When you drink the
holy wine after the prayer has been said,
the fallen lineage is purified. That is the
condition. The ceremony of changing
the lineage is like baptism in Christian-
ity! (183-89, 1988.10.29)

Richard: This refers to the Holy Wine Ceremony, by which a married couple can change their lineage to God’s side. View The Holy Communion of Marriage slide presentation.

Health and Disease

2. The Mind’s Power to Heal

A cheerful heart is a good medicine,
but a downcast spirit dries up the bones.
Proverbs 17.22

Passion makes the bones rot.
Proverbs 14.30

Nowadays people… use wine as beverage and
they adopt reckless behavior… Their passions
exhaust their vital forces; their cravings dissi-
pate their true (essence); they do not know how
to find contentment within themselves; they are
not skilled in the control of their spirits. They
devote all their attention to the amusement of
their minds, thus cutting themselves off from
the joys of long (life). Their rising and retiring is
without regularity. For these reasons they reach
only one half of the hundred years and then
they degenerate.
The Yellow Emperor’s Classic of Internal Medicine

Neither ought you to attempt to cure the body
without the soul; and this is the reason why the
cure of many diseases is unknown to the physi-
cians of Hellas, because they are ignorant of the
whole which ought to be studied also; for the
part can never be well unless the whole is well…
For this is the great error of our day in the treat-
ment of the human body, that physicians sepa-
rate the soul from the body.
Plato (Hellenism)

Teachings of Rev. Sun Myung Moon

Your mental attitude toward your situation is all-important. Diseases and bodily sicknesses can be controlled by your mind. When you get sick, if you think, “I will die soon,” you very well might! Rather, you should think, “This illness came not to kill me but to make me stronger by fighting it off. Maybe it will even give me a blessing.” Then you will soon be healthy. Conquer your sickness in your mind, and you will regain your health. (118:327, June 20, 1982)

If you think you are too old, you are finished. Then you will age very rapidly. Although I am aging, I am always thinking of things to do so that I will not lose my spirit and energy. Because I don’t loose my spirit, I can overcome any obstacles and maintain my health. Your mental outlook is a powerful thing. (205:91, July 7, 1990)

No matter how healthy your mind may be, if you do not have a healthy body, you cannot fulfill your responsibility as a human being. Therefore, I bid you to constantly make efforts to bring unity in your mind and body. (271:151, August 27, 1995)

In order to become a revolutionary, you should be healthy. If you are weak physically, you cannot carry out your revolutionary mission. (203:177, June 24, 1990)

Why Abstinence Matters: Interview with Sharon Owusu-Banahene

1 Chronicles 13

13 David consulted with the commanders of thousands and of hundreds, with every leader. And David said to all the assembly of Israel, “If it seems good to you, and if it is the will of the Lord our God, let us send abroad to our brethren who remain in all the land of Israel, and with them to the priests and Levites in the cities that have pasture lands, that they may come together to us. Then let us bring again the ark of our God to us; for we neglected it in the days of Saul.” All the assembly agreed to do so, for the thing was right in the eyes of all the people.

Richard: It is interesting that at this stage of history, the ark of the covenant, also called the sacred chest, where the tablets of stone given to Moses with the ten commandments are stored, was at the home of Abin’adab. The ark had been neglected, and King David was trying to restore the reverence for the Word of God.
Similarly, today we see that the Eight Sacred Texts or Cheon Bok Ark, that Rev. Sun Myung Moon bequeathed to all of God’s people is now resting in the homes of Tribal Messiahs, those who have inherited the mission of being true parents and building God’s Kingdom on earth.

Hosea 9

14 Give them, O Lord—
    what wilt thou give?
Give them a miscarrying womb
    and dry breasts.

Richard: Here, God’s people had been worshiping Baal, a fertility god. Ironically, as a result, all fertility will be taken away.
Today we see a decline in fertility in the western world. Some don’t want to have children, but others struggle to become pregnant, partially as a result of the heavy use of birth control, which can retard fertility when stopped. Another reason for infertility is contracting a sexually transmitted disease like Chlamydia which can cause Pelvic Inflammatory Disease. 10,000 sexually active teens contract a sexually transmitted disease every day in the United States.

  1. The Healing Power of the Body

Teachings of Rev. Sun Myung Moon

Truly, the human body is a treasure house of truth, a microcosm of the vast universe, and a palace of mysteries. (203:327, June 28, 1990)

The human body is like a comprehensive kingdom of heaven, where all the parts interact with one another in harmonious subject-object relationships. Therefore the universe protects the body, and you do not get sick. People do not realize that air pressure of one kilogram per square centimeter is squeezing every cell. Yet everything is in balance.
When we get sick, it means that something is lacking in a particular part of the body. Some subject and object partners have lost their ideal relationship, and the universe tries to pull these failed ones down. An expelling force pushes them out; this is expressed as sickness. (204:112, July 1, 1990)

Why do you get sick?… In order for the body to sustain its life, all its parts engage in good interactions, with each part performing its function well. Then the body functions smoothly, and its life continues. However, what happens if there is a blockage somewhere?
This universe protects anything whose elements engage in give and take in accord with God’s ideal pattern. However, should an opposing element appear, something becomes lacking, or there is a blockage someplace, those elements no longer move within the realm that the universe is protecting. Hence, there is a reaction to expel the offending elements. This reaction is not a bad thing; it happens for the universe to protect itself. People mainly view sickness as something bad, but it is a natural function to protect the greater organism. So we should change the way we view sickness.
Therefore, if you have a stomach-ache, this means that there is a blockage in a circuit of give-and-take action between some subject and object partner. Your body tries to expel it to the same degree as it is blocked. An expelling force is acting on that place, and so it hurts. Once you release the blockage, you will recover. (165:176, May 20, 1987)

When you get sick, why do you feel pain? It is because the balance in your body has broken down. Once the balance is out of kilter, a universal force acts to expel. Even if you did not feel pain, since you have a conflict within your system, the universal force would still act to repel, and you could die. The pain warns you of your condition.

Likewise, the reason you feel a pang of conscience is because of the action of this same universal force. Therefore, you should not do or even think of anything that can cause such a result. (400:113, December 28, 2002)

Cheon Seong Gyeong 1027

If you gave a sermon for one hour
without giving any inspiration, you have
to repent for three hours. This should be
clear to you. If you give a poorly deliv-
ered sermon and you do not inspire
them, you have to repent in excess of
three times that time period.
As for any life form, water and care
must be given. But if you do not give it
water, and instead take water away and
overturn the planted soil, you will be
responsible for that. Even after the audi-
ence has left, you must bless them and
pray for them centering on that day’s
speech. (160-194, 1969.5.12)

Cheong Seong Gyeong 1186

I have already declared the “Ceremo-
ny of the Settlement of the Eight Stages,”
on the national, world and cosmic lev-
els, thus commencing the age when God
can come and go vertically whenever He
wishes, and can freely move horizontal-
ly to any place on earth. That is why the
term “global village” has appeared. The
Unification Church teaches not only
about global village, but also about a
global family. The age has come when the
history of the global family can unfold
on the earth. The whole world, which
was divided into day and night, now lies
within the scope of one day of human
life. The age has come when everything
can be communicated instantly around
the world. (198-277, 1990.2.4)

Richard: We should use technology and the internet to spread God’s Word of goodness.

Health and Disease

The human body is certainly among the Creator’s crowning achievements. the body is like a small universe, whose parts are in constant interaction to maintain balance and the motion of life. it operates by natural principles to preserve health and fight disease. yet much about its marvelous functioning remains a mystery. When an imbalance or blockage disturbs the interactions among the body’s cells and organs, disease and pain result. the entire body is then mobilized to aid the infected part. in this, the body illustrates universal moral laws: living for the sake of the greater good, and attending to a deficiency in a part before it compromises the whole. Furthermore, the importance of the mind, or the psychological component in healing, can never be understated.
Medical science has done much to improve health, and the role of the physician is affirmed in the scriptures. in this section, we have added to sacred writings passages from some of the foundational authorities in medicine: Hippocrates, Galen, Paracelsus and the classic of the yellow emperor. Father Moon calls for a holistic approach to medicine that utilizes the best of both east and West, scientific medicine and spiritual healing. if you wish to live a long life, you should eat healthy food, drink pure water, breathe clean air, and exercise regularly. and, Father Moon adds, love all people.

  1. The Healing Power of the Body

Great thanks are due to Nature for putting into
the life of each being so much healing power.
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

The human body contains blood, phlegm, yellow
bile and black bile. These… make up its consti-
tution and cause its pains and health. Health
is… that state in which these… substances are
in the correct proportion to each other… When
one of these is separated from the rest and
stands by itself, not only the part from which it
has come, but also that where it collects and is
present in excess, should become diseased, and
because it contains too much of the particular
substance, cause pain and disease.
Hippocrates

There are many parts, yet one body. The eye
cannot say to the hand, “I have no need of you,”
nor again the head to the feet, “I have no need of
you.” On the contrary, the parts of the body which
seem to be weaker are indispensable, and those
parts of the body which we think less honorable
we invest with the greater honor, and our unpre-
sentable parts are treated with greater modesty,
which our more presentable parts do not require.
But God has so composed the body, giving the
greater honor to the inferior part, that there may
be no discord in the body, but that the members
may have the same care for one another. If one
member suffers, all suffer together; if one mem-
ber is honored, all rejoice together.
1 Corinthians 12.20-26

In the whole world it is said that some part of
the body is afflicted and painful. It is truly a
signpost or guidance from God, though you are
ignorant of it.

Noah’s Ties With Heaven Were Greater than those With His Relatives

Acts 3

Peter then took him by the right hand and helped him up.

At once the man’s feet and ankles became strong, and he jumped up and started walking. He went with Peter and John into the temple, walking and jumping and praising God. Everyone saw him walking around and praising God. 10 They knew that he was the beggar who had been lying beside the Beautiful Gate, and they were completely surprised. They could not imagine what had happened to the man.

Richard:  I believe in miracles.

Isaiah 23

23 This is a message
from distant islands
    about the city of Tyre:[a]
Cry, you seagoing ships![b]
Tyre and its houses
    lie in ruins.[c]
Mourn in silence,
you shop owners of Sidon,[d]
    you people on the coast.
Your sailors crossed oceans,
    making your city rich.

The Religious Person’s Attitude

Hebrews 11:1-32

Why was only Noah able to keep unshaken faith in God’s will, while all people, including the people in his tribe and people on good terms with him, betrayed it? He knew that the ties he had formed with Heaven were greater than the ties he had with his brothers and sisters, his relatives, and even his life. When misery came, he longed for the infinite world with a bowed head, shedding tears with a deeply touched Shim Jung. You should not forget this.

Abraham and Moses were in the same situation. The Pharaoh’s dazzlingly gorgeous palace was an environment of maximum freedom, in which Moses lived in splendor. However, he gave all that up because he realized that God’s providential hands were extended to him through historical ties and through the flesh, blood and bones of his ancestors. As he became better informed of the culture of Egypt and more knowledgeable about everything in the enemy country, Moses became increasingly sad inside the Pharaoh’s palace because he could not share in the historical situation of Israel, the chosen people. He might have grieved over his inability to understand the people’s sorrow. Though his environment was very free and comfortable, when he became deeply moved by the realization that he was a descendant of the chosen people, Moses became hostile toward the Pharaoh’s palace and stepped forth, regarding the Egyptians as his enemies. We must be aware of this.

Moses put the royal court of the Pharaoh behind him and proceeded forward seeking the Israelites, the people with ties to Heaven. Moses knew of the will and embraced such a Shim Jung. However, the Jewish people, who were ignorant of the will, could not recognize Moses as such. This became cause for penetrating historical sorrow and lamentation.

When the people whom Moses had sought out abandoned him, Moses ended up leading the life of a shepherd for forty years in the Midian wilderness. Though he had to walk such a path, Moses kept his principles and the integrity of being Heaven’s chosen. Even if his body were to fall down, Moses ardently wished to bequeath his faith to someone. The more intensely he wished for that, the more tears he had to shed, thinking of the Israelites groaning under the ruthless tyranny of Pharaoh.

While the Israelite people were asleep and in a state of ignorance, Moses prayed for their sake, raising his face and looking to the land of blessing, Canaan. Unable to sleep, he would pour out his heart. He led a life of contrition before Heaven with a sorrowful heart toward the people. Because he led such a life, Moses was fit to assume the responsibility of the central figure of that period. He could become the representative of Heaven. Throughout history, we have learned that Heaven set up Moses in front of the Israelites, who were falling down, to seek and re-establish the history of His relations with Israel and humankind.
