We need to return to God the right of
ownership, the realm of heart, and the
realm of substance. The family, nation
and world together need to be returned
to Him. We need to give them back to
Him as an offering through the True
Parents and clear all our debts.
On that basis, the horizontal founda-
tion of the right of ownership of parents,
children, and your family and all things
is connected through the True Parents.
Where that takes place becomes God’s
Kingdom on earth. From the un-fallen
position, the right of ownership must be
connected to earth, but due to the Fall
this connection must be made through
the path of indemnity. Once established,
we will usher in the era of the sovereignty
of absolute love and the right of owner-
ship of the Kingdom of Heaven. In order
to welcome such a liberated realm, we
declare in Family Pledge number eight,
that we will perfect the realm of liber-
ation in God’s Kingdom on earth and
achieve that goal. (295-243, 1998.8.28)

Cheong Seong Gyeong 1277

In actual fact, initially, True Father
must first place his hand on the women’s
hands and pray. True Father would offer
the prayer of unity. When you drink the
holy wine after the prayer has been said,
the fallen lineage is purified. That is the
condition. The ceremony of changing
the lineage is like baptism in Christian-
ity! (183-89, 1988.10.29)

Richard: This refers to the Holy Wine Ceremony, by which a married couple can change their lineage to God’s side. View The Holy Communion of Marriage slide presentation.

2. The Mind’s Power to Heal

A cheerful heart is a good medicine,
but a downcast spirit dries up the bones.
Proverbs 17.22

Passion makes the bones rot.
Proverbs 14.30

Nowadays people… use wine as beverage and
they adopt reckless behavior… Their passions
exhaust their vital forces; their cravings dissi-
pate their true (essence); they do not know how
to find contentment within themselves; they are
not skilled in the control of their spirits. They
devote all their attention to the amusement of
their minds, thus cutting themselves off from
the joys of long (life). Their rising and retiring is
without regularity. For these reasons they reach
only one half of the hundred years and then
they degenerate.
The Yellow Emperor’s Classic of Internal Medicine

Neither ought you to attempt to cure the body
without the soul; and this is the reason why the
cure of many diseases is unknown to the physi-
cians of Hellas, because they are ignorant of the
whole which ought to be studied also; for the
part can never be well unless the whole is well…
For this is the great error of our day in the treat-
ment of the human body, that physicians sepa-
rate the soul from the body.
Plato (Hellenism)

Teachings of Rev. Sun Myung Moon

Your mental attitude toward your situation is all-important. Diseases and bodily sicknesses can be controlled by your mind. When you get sick, if you think, “I will die soon,” you very well might! Rather, you should think, “This illness came not to kill me but to make me stronger by fighting it off. Maybe it will even give me a blessing.” Then you will soon be healthy. Conquer your sickness in your mind, and you will regain your health. (118:327, June 20, 1982)

If you think you are too old, you are finished. Then you will age very rapidly. Although I am aging, I am always thinking of things to do so that I will not lose my spirit and energy. Because I don’t loose my spirit, I can overcome any obstacles and maintain my health. Your mental outlook is a powerful thing. (205:91, July 7, 1990)

No matter how healthy your mind may be, if you do not have a healthy body, you cannot fulfill your responsibility as a human being. Therefore, I bid you to constantly make efforts to bring unity in your mind and body. (271:151, August 27, 1995)

In order to become a revolutionary, you should be healthy. If you are weak physically, you cannot carry out your revolutionary mission. (203:177, June 24, 1990)

If you gave a sermon for one hour
without giving any inspiration, you have
to repent for three hours. This should be
clear to you. If you give a poorly deliv-
ered sermon and you do not inspire
them, you have to repent in excess of
three times that time period.
As for any life form, water and care
must be given. But if you do not give it
water, and instead take water away and
overturn the planted soil, you will be
responsible for that. Even after the audi-
ence has left, you must bless them and
pray for them centering on that day’s
speech. (160-194, 1969.5.12)

I have already declared the “Ceremo-
ny of the Settlement of the Eight Stages,”
on the national, world and cosmic lev-
els, thus commencing the age when God
can come and go vertically whenever He
wishes, and can freely move horizontal-
ly to any place on earth. That is why the
term “global village” has appeared. The
Unification Church teaches not only
about global village, but also about a
global family. The age has come when the
history of the global family can unfold
on the earth. The whole world, which
was divided into day and night, now lies
within the scope of one day of human
life. The age has come when everything
can be communicated instantly around
the world. (198-277, 1990.2.4)

Richard: We should use technology and the internet to spread God’s Word of goodness.

Chapter 4

Health and Disease

The human body is certainly among the Creator’s crowning achievements. the body is like a small universe, whose parts are in constant interaction to maintain balance and the motion of life. it operates by natural principles to preserve health and fight disease. yet much about its marvelous functioning remains a mystery. When an imbalance or blockage disturbs the interactions among the body’s cells and organs, disease and pain result. the entire body is then mobilized to aid the infected part. in this, the body illustrates universal moral laws: living for the sake of the greater good, and attending to a deficiency in a part before it compromises the whole. Furthermore, the importance of the mind, or the psychological component in healing, can never be understated.
Medical science has done much to improve health, and the role of the physician is affirmed in the scriptures. in this section, we have added to sacred writings passages from some of the foundational authorities in medicine: Hippocrates, Galen, Paracelsus and the classic of the yellow emperor. Father Moon calls for a holistic approach to medicine that utilizes the best of both east and West, scientific medicine and spiritual healing. if you wish to live a long life, you should eat healthy food, drink pure water, breathe clean air, and exercise regularly. and, Father Moon adds, love all people.

  1. The Healing Power of the Body

Great thanks are due to Nature for putting into
the life of each being so much healing power.
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

The human body contains blood, phlegm, yellow
bile and black bile. These… make up its consti-
tution and cause its pains and health. Health
is… that state in which these… substances are
in the correct proportion to each other… When
one of these is separated from the rest and
stands by itself, not only the part from which it
has come, but also that where it collects and is
present in excess, should become diseased, and
because it contains too much of the particular
substance, cause pain and disease.
Hippocrates

There are many parts, yet one body. The eye
cannot say to the hand, “I have no need of you,”
nor again the head to the feet, “I have no need of
you.” On the contrary, the parts of the body which
seem to be weaker are indispensable, and those
parts of the body which we think less honorable
we invest with the greater honor, and our unpre-
sentable parts are treated with greater modesty,
which our more presentable parts do not require.
But God has so composed the body, giving the
greater honor to the inferior part, that there may
be no discord in the body, but that the members
may have the same care for one another. If one
member suffers, all suffer together; if one mem-
ber is honored, all rejoice together.
1 Corinthians 12.20-26

In the whole world it is said that some part of
the body is afflicted and painful. It is truly a
signpost or guidance from God, though you are
ignorant of it.

Cheon Seong Gyeong 1802

The historical Fall originated from a
wrongful marriage centered on a false
parent. As Adam and Eve fell during
their youth, the corruption of youth
began in the Garden of Eden. They
sowed the seeds of corruption of the
youth. Owing to that, the whole ideal
of God centering on Adam’s family was
completely shattered. Seeds planted just
like that will grow, and in the Last Days
there comes a time in which their fruits
will be borne. There is no one in the
world capable of preventing the corrup-
tion of the youth. America itself cannot
stop it, but instead has become the field
of free sex, homosexuality, and lesbian-
ism. It is a complete mess. Can all these
things be stopped by American educa-
tion and religion? Such things cannot be
blocked by America’s political and eco-
nomic power, or by military power. They
can only throw their hands in the air.
Then who is capable of solving these
problems? Only God is. Since they were
planted by false parents, the motive for
committing sin was humanistic. Since
the false parent, Adam, erred and messed
everything up, and as he fell in ignorance,
the restored Adam must understand the
truth completely on earth. He can make
Satan surrender by understanding the
details of God’s secrets, what the goal of
His standard of perfection is, and what
manner of wrongdoings the devil perpe-
trated. (302-222, 1999.6.14)

Cheong Seong Gyeong 1055

In order for the first son’s family to
thrive, the family members are to accept
and conscientiously practice the estab-
lished family rules and etiquette that
come from their ancestors. People whose
attitude is “Those rules have nothing to
do with me” cannot be the offspring of
that family. Such a person cannot be the
heir of such a family, even if he is born
as its eldest son. (21-252, 1968.11.24)

God’s Creation and Human Creativity

Creativity and Art

1.The Spirituality of Art

Teachings of Rev. Sun Myung Moon

Human beings are meant to inherit the creative nature of God and participate with God in His great work of creation. (Exposition of the Divine Principle, Creation 5.2.2)

A culture develops from words. It begins with speech; then the words are written down to become literature. Then they are expressed in paintings and other works of art. Art and culture are thus expressions of the invisible word. This is the principle of creation through the Word, emerging as visible form and substantial existence. (107:317, June 8, 1980)

Songs, dancing and art are ways that human beings respond to God’s joy and laughter. On the other hand, without love, singing, dancing and art are to no purpose. The core of art is love. For the love of the world God comes down and resonates with us through singing, dancing and art. (225:128-29, January 5, 1992)

When professionals in the art world seek for something profound and need inspiration, they fall back on their religious background. That is why the culture of art developed centered on religion. Take Christian culture, for example. If you have a chance to travel in Europe, visit the Vatican. You will see the essence of European culture in each work of art. (198:281; February 5, 1990)

Art is worthless unless there is profound emotion in the background. A great work of art should be capable of arousing deep emotion, whether one views it today or a thousand years from now. A painting that can stimulate such a feeling deep in our hearts is called a masterpiece. (142:274-75, March 13, 1986)

To be an artist is to make one’s life a work of art. Children’s education should be imbued with art. A wife should be an artist of the emotions in the way she honors and shows appreciation to her hus-band. I believe that it is a greater art than the paintings that hang in museums. The greatest value of art is to beautify and elevate love in the family. (100:139, October 9, 1978)

Human beings value love more than anything. Have you ever heard of animals creating art or lit-erature? The theme of great literature is simple: the joys and sorrows of love relationships. Great literature is good at describing love—in history, in society, in ordinary life and in the future.
Next, great literature is good at using metaphors, for instance, a majestic river evokes love flowing into eternity… What better way of describing the beauty of love than using nature’s metaphors? God created all things in nature to stimulate our sense of love. All creatures are woven together with love.
A masterpiece of literature has as its central theme a love which connects all of the beauty and wonder of nature—the heavenly bodies, the beauty of rivers, mountains, trees and flowers—all of which come together to stimulate the expression of human love. A novel may be well written, but unless it expresses the beauty of love, the reader easily loses interest. The central theme of literature is always how to manifest the human passion of love. Poetry is no exception; poems just use fewer words. Young people in particular are sensitive to poetic feelings and are readily intoxicated by the emotions evoked in poetry and literature. They are responding to the universal human desire to relate to love. (94:60, July 3, 1977)

How can peoples from diverse nations and languages share their feelings in a short time? It cannot be done with literature or fine arts. It can be done only through song. A song, though short, can express all kinds of feelings and capture anyone’s heart.
What songs make us the happiest? Songs that praise the most precious Central Being of the universe. They attract the greatest attention of all beings, including all things in nature. When we sing God’s praises in the evening under the setting sun, we can move God’s heart to empathize with our emotions. Therefore, when you sing, do not sing casually, but place yourself in the positions of the composer and lyricist and feel their emotions. Then sing with a heart to praise God.
Some songs are joyful and some songs are sad. When you sing joyful songs with a joyful heart, you harmonize with Heaven and rejoice alongside nature in the garden of joy. When you sing sad songs, you should open your chest as wide as possible and sing loudly in order to melt the world’s griefs and clean up the world’s sorrows. (270:11, May 3, 1995)

When registering, the order in which
you register determines who the ances-
tors are going to be. Yes, it is determined
by who is the first to become a tribal
messiah and be registered. Jesus tried to
register his 120 followers, but could not
accomplish this; in the era of the Sec-
ond Coming, you need to register based
on 160 or 180 couples. It came to be 160
couples because everyone wanted 160,
not 180. The number 6 is the number of
Satan, and so you need to perfect it in
the satanic world. The number 4 is the
ideal number. Therefore, four times the
number 4 symbolizes the whole. (253-83,
1994.1.7)

Cheon Seong Gyeong 1517

If Adam and Eve had fulfilled their
responsibility as children, as siblings,
as husband and wife, and parents, then
their children would have been in a
different situation. As it was, Adam’s
children could not reach the realm of
God’s love. If they had been the chil-
dren of unfallen Adam, they would all
have been connected horizontally and
would have established God’s Kingdom
on earth; instead, the vertical and the
horizontal were not connected, and so it
could not be established. That is why the
sons and daughters need to inherit two
kingdoms.
Since they are destined to inherit
God’s Kingdom in heaven and on earth
– the vertical and horizontal kingdoms
– and the lineages of the vertical and
horizontal parents, the sons and daugh-
ters are eligible to inherit every inter-
nal aspect of the vertical Parents and
every external aspect of the horizontal
parents. Being a part of the royal fam-
ily signifies leading the life of having
inherited the two kingdoms. The fact
that you have become the royal fam-
ily would mean that you stand on the
perfected foundation, and you can be
accepted by both kingdoms at all times.

Beauty

2. The Beauty of Human Beings

Teachings of Rev. Sun Myung Moon

People appear beautiful when they receive God’s grace, when God loves them. They are beautiful because they radiate light. In a world where all things radiate love’s light, no one would discriminate between beauty and ugliness. (33:88, August 9, 1970)

What is original beauty? It is to become embodiments of beauty, to express our beauty through laughter, dance and song, and with it to glorify God. This was the beauty God intended for the original Garden of Eden. (2:245, June 9, 1957)

If you look at people with the glasses of love, there is no one who displeases you. Even an ugly woman looks beautiful; even a misshapen man looks handsome. (162:47, March 22, 1987)

There is nothing attractive about a lake filled with muddy water. Yet if a lotus blooms in the midst of the mud, it makes the lake truly amazing. One flower can make a lake come alive. One flower can transform an ugly lake into a beautiful lake. From this point of view, evil human beings, if they have even an ounce of love in their hearts, can be beautiful. (354:21, September 16, 2001)

A woman may have great beauty, but if there is no purpose to her beauty, does it have meaning? Would any of the women here like to be a beautiful doll that stayed all day in a glass box? None of you could tolerate it. Beauty is not a passive thing just to be admired; it is active, pursuing a goal. Some think that the purpose for a woman’s beauty is to attract a husband. If that were all, would she be happy? No. In her beauty a woman dreams of something more than merely securing a man; she dreams of finding something within that man—love. The goal of beauty is love. Beauty’s dream comes true in the happiness of love. (116:10-11, December 1, 1981)

Looking with a genuine heart of love, who is more beautiful, the smiling face of a woman who has artfully adorned herself with makeup or the smile of a woman who suffers and works hard to care for her family? The hard-working woman has the more beautiful smile. Although she is busy day and night with laundry, cleaning the house and looking after her children, she has a most noble appear-ance. (129:176, October 30, 1983)

How serious we are to live for others in this world determines the beauty of our character in the next world. It does not matter if a person is plump or slender; his or her heart to live for others is the supreme beauty of all beauty, because it is the way to perfect love. (307:166, November 8, 1998)

The major topic in the spirit world is harmony. It is balance and unity. What is the center of har-mony? Could you say, “Since my face is beautiful, the harmony of the universe should revolve around me?” In the spirit world, though you may boast of your beauty, you will meet many who are more beautiful than you. The environment there is exceptionally beautiful. You should learn to appreciate it; nevertheless, because you tend to see only one dimension you are likely to miss its multidimensionality. (217:143, May 19, 1991)

Now the time has come when you can
develop a vision for the nation. It is an
amazing fact that you can stand in the
front line as a fighter for sake of the inde-
pendence and deliverance of the nation.
Those who do this become representa-
tives of human history and the history of
the universe. When God sees this, how
proud and content He will feel!
It is also an amazing fact that True
Parents have appeared on this earth. We
have severed that which has come from
the false parents. Based on this accom-
plishment, we want to bring everyone
through the gate to the True Parents on
the opposite side. Accordingly, we aim
to turn the path to hell back toward
heaven.
Without passing through the gate of
the True Parents, you cannot enter the
Heavenly Kingdom. However, Chris-
tianity does not have this gate. Only
the Unification Church does. Passing
through this gate will enable you to go
directly to the Kingdom of Heaven. In
return, however, you must completely
clear up your past. You should not even
remember the names of the friends you
have known. Married women should not
be thinking of the man they first loved.
They must reach the point of completely
forgetting him. Those who think about
how they lived in the past cannot enter
the Heavenly Kingdom.
This is why we must put together all
our devoted effort to focus our thoughts
solely on True Parents and God. If some-
thing else is mixed in, you will not be
able to travel in a straight line. You will
not be able to walk the path of love. Just
because you have received the Blessing
on earth does not mean that everything
is finished. You must also pass through
a church-level Blessing, a national-lev-
el Blessing and ultimately a world-level
Blessing. You will need to go through
these three stages. Why? So that you can
effectively reach the point of total self-
denial. Just because you have sons and
daughters does not mean that they are
your possessions. You must reach the
point of total self-denial. These sons and
daughters belong to God and True Par-
ents. (208-342, 1990.11.21)

Cheong Seong Gyeong 1554

The only ideology that should remain
is Godism, which provides us with the
absolute ideal of love and the realm of
heart for our brothers and sisters in all
nations. Only Godism and no other
should govern this world! Amen! (137-196,

God’s Creation and Human Creativity

Beauty

  1. The Beauty of Nature

Teachings of Rev. Sun Myung Moon

No matter how precious a work of art in a museum may be, can it be equal to a living work of art? This world is God’s work of art; it is like a museum containing all God’s beloved creations. (175:187, April 16, 1988)

Listen to the sound of the cicada. When it sings, all other creatures sing along with it. No orchestra on earth can compare to the orchestra of nature. (285:243, June 5, 1997)

Beholding all things of the natural world, nature’s beauty and harmony through the changing sea-sons, we should appreciate their profundity. A bird in flight, a butterfly or bee, the flowing streams and the towering mountains—know that each is God’s creation and a manifestation of God’s inner heart. (5:343, March 3, 1959)

If you ever feel as if you are dying of loneliness, go out into a garden and find a flower. Smell its fragrance and talk with it, “What a beautiful fragrance! Where are you from?” It might respond, “I come from my grandma and grandpa.” This means its ultimate origin was from God. God created this world as a beautiful garden for us; it is a museum of living things, given for our enjoyment. Picasso’s paintings may be beautiful, but he could not create even a patch of grass. Have you ever considered that you are looking at God’s museum? Have you ever been astonished at the beauty of a pussy willow? It blooms on a cold spring day by the ice-melting stream. How marvelous! Have you wondered for whom is it blooming? Imagine: when your beloved child is thirsty, he breaks the ice with his fist and drinks the water. Afterwards he sees that pussy willow in bloom, a symbol of spring, and sings its praises. It is wonderful! Seeing it enriches our life. Our living environment is a museum of love. Talk with its exhibits and make them your friends. Once you understand that you were born on earth to build relationships with this world of love, how can you be lonely? (112:220, April 12, 1981)

God of creation! Thy beauty is manifested in all the created beings: Everywhere Thy hands have touched teems with mysterious and radiant beauty. Let us fathom the distressed heart of the Father who, even today, ceaselessly tries to find beauty in us, who were created for this purpose. Allow us, we pray, to return beauty to Thee, for Thy love. (1:102, June 10, 1956)
